A house on the South Shore, wooded version

A house on the South Shore, wooded version

Frédérik Boivin and Divna Sajn have just put their house up for sale two years after having acquired it. It is in Sainte-Julie, in the Hauts-Bois area. They are asking for $ 745,000. They left a semi-detached from Angus to Rosemont to “retire to their land” in 2010. But when they moved, the couple had not planned the two hours of road that they would inflict on themselves day after day to go drive Clara and Stella back to school and then go to work in Montreal.

These 37-year-old parents chose a primary school with a special vocation … 30 km from their home.

“We didn’t think at all that it would create that,” says the one who convinced the father to educate their children with the Steiner-Waldorf pedagogy. Himself a professor in a CEGEP in Montreal, Mr. Boivin says that he will reluctantly leave this architect’s house which he calls the tall brunette. “This is a house built in 1980 by the first owner-architect,” he says. With just about everything, it could have been designed today that we wouldn’t be surprised. ”

The divisions are not orthodox, especially in the basement. Two bedrooms on the third level have given way to a sort of double room, with two entrance doors opening onto the corridor. The other bedroom on the same floor has its own bathroom, unchanged for 32 years.

Only one of the four bathrooms has been renovated.

Despite this, the house has a lot of charm. Due to its location on the hillside in the wooded area of Hauts-Bois, a very pleasant and peaceful area of Sainte-Julie. And because of its large courtyard with inground pool, with privacy at the end.

Mature hardwoods and a cedar hedge line the property of approximately 15,370 square feet. Mr. Boivin built a cabin at the back of the courtyard. In addition, a veranda built in 1990 allows you to enjoy this green environment 12 months a year.

Renovated ground floor

A play area attracts children inside the house. Nearby, the kitchen island is so large that they can hide inside. This new configuration of the family room dates from 2010.

If the owners closed the swimming pool soon after their arrival and redid some of the exterior fittings, the work was concentrated on the ground floor inside the house.

Mrs. Divna Sajn says that they would “certainly not have chosen exotic wood” for the floors if they had known (that they would move so quickly) … It is cumaru, a Brazilian wood among the most resistant .

Elsewhere, the floors are original, except on the stair treads, redone in cherry. A gasoline a little more affordable than the other, explains Mr. Boivin.

The dining room, open onto the family room, has a special place for wood. On the ceiling of the latter, slats of western red cedar climb over half of the room and form an enveloping cathedral ceiling, a charming feature of this property. A friend of the couple made the dining table. A suspended sideboard clears the almost new parquet floor.

The kitchen forms the heart of this open space. White and gray (in melamine), this piece has gone into elegant and shiny fashion. Recessed lights illuminate quartz worktops. Several appliances including the induction stove and a double dishwasher are included. Several lacquered cabinets hide the pantry, garbage bins and the rest.

Ms. Sajn, a pharmaceutical representative who has become a caterer, lingers on a walk-in closet filled with bottles of essential oils and homeopathic medicines. “At first, he didn’t want to know anything about the suburbs,” she reveals.

The proximity of the trails of Mont Saint-Bruno had finally convinced him, the proximity of an organic farm too, open from June to October …

It’s a green shift for this family. A turn that they intend to pursue by moving even further from the city to an even larger area. “With chickens!” Says the tall brunette.
